Petition: Stop Cutting Our Communities’ Fire Budgets!
One of the greatest challenges facing Fire Services across the country is the looming threat of budget cuts. With the COVID-19 pandemic, the resulting lockdowns and increasing costs due to PPE are threatening local finances and putting funding for public services in jeopardy. The budgets of Fire Departments and other emergency services are at great risk!
We are launching a petition to stand up for those on the front lines in Fire Services in protest of political decisions which cost fire fighters their jobs and requiring them to work with fewer resources.
One of the harshest realities of shrinking fire budgets is the constant threat of layoffs which have multiple negative consequences. The first and most obvious, is the direct loss of employment for those who sacrifice themselves to serve their community. In addition, it results in a hampered workforce which is not only understaffed but overworked.
It is not in the interest of the Departments trying to maintain an efficient workforce, it is not in the best interest of the Firefighters who put themselves at increased risk, and most of all, it is not in the interest of the community. Fewer firefighters means slower response capabilities, and therefore, a public put at greater risk in the event of an emergency.
Budget cuts are happening and in the current climate it is likely that they will only get steeper. The need for firefighters and first responders is greater now than ever, so what sense does it make to cut funding?
It is our mission to educate the public on the importance of proper funding and adequate budgets for the health and safety of our local fire departments and first responders. Please sign our petition today to Stop Cutting Fire Department Budgets and please consider making a donation. Your donation will aid us in providing a grassroots voice for firefighters across the country in the state and local political process.
