ARLINGTON, Virginia – This fall, Firefighters and EMS Fund contributed to Support Our Firefighters PAC who was supporting the compensation firefighters receive and the amount of unavoidable sacrifice that goes toward the profession.
Firefighters and EMS Fund targeted ballot measures that sought to rectify this issue and came across Proposition B in Houston, Texas where firefighters work to receive a pay raise equal to what other first responders have received in the past.
Houston firefighters, when compared to those at the top five departments in other Texas cities, currently earn 30% less than their colleagues. Because of this, Firefighters and EMS Fund donated to Support Our Firefighters PAC who used the money for its television campaign.
On November 6, Houston firefighters prevailed in the midterms with a victory in support of the measure, 59% for over 40% against.
The mission of the Firefighters and EMS Fund is to provide a grassroots voice for firefighters across the country in the state and local political process. The mission begins by supporting ballot initiatives and working to elect political leaders at the state and local level that understand firefighters’ and public safety officers’ interests.
